Stationery Corner: Diaries and Planners

Hands up, who got a new diary or planner for Christmas? I would be lost without my diary and various planners. In fact, I love them so much I've shared a few reasons over at the Simple Stylish Makes blog on why they are good for you! Pop on over for a read.

What are your thoughts on diaries and planners? Are they a help or a hindrance? I'd love to hear your thoughts!

Thrifty Tips: Breakfast

Whether you love it or hate it, did you know that breakfast can actually save you money? Seems a little strange, right? Well, not really when you think about it.
  • Skipping breakfast means you are more likely to snack and shop bought snacks cost more than a boiled egg and toast at home. Snacks also don't fill you up. They're empty calories. Whereas a bowl of porridge will see you through until lunch time.

  • Branded cereal can be pretty pricey. Try those supermarket versions instead, they're really rather good and are a fraction of the cost of the big brands.

  • A cooked breakfast really does fill you up and stop that tummy rumbling mid morning. It doesn't have to be a full English. Scrambled eggs on toast does the job nicely! Cooking your own is much cheaper too rather than buying something from the canteen at work and it really doesn't take long - ten minutes tops!

I hope you like this thrifty tip! Catch up on all my tips here and don't forget to follow me on Twitter, Instagram, Facebook and Pinterest.

What's on the jukebox, Jo?

Woohoo, it's Friday, hooooorrrraaaaaaaaaah!!!!

I closed up my online shops for the Chritmas holidays this week after a record number of sales (thank you, thank you, thank you!!!) and I'm now completely over excited about seeing family for the festive season. If I could show how excited I am right now, it would be in the form of dance. Something fast, like this amazing lindy hop from 1941 or maybe one of my favourite movie scenes, the dance from Zobra the Greek. This scene makes me insanely happy, especially the hysterics they get into!

As well as sending off the last of my Christmas orders, I've been blogging too. Check out these ideas I shared for handmade Christmas table decorations, as well as these quick crafty projects you can still do before Christmas and also my weekly social media tips.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Three Social Media Tips

tips social media

Here are three quick social media tips:

Pinterest / don't forget to add hashtags in your pin description. This will help fellow pinners to find your pin.

Twitter / Check our 'Your Tweet activitiy', which is linked from your profile page. This data is really useful to find out how well your tweets are performing.

Instagram / did you know you can tag people in images? This sends a notification to that person that they've been tagged in a photo but only if they're following you. The tagged name also leads followers to their Instagram page. Great tool for acknowledging someone.

Quick Christmas Craft Projects

With Christmas just around the corner, I thought I'd share four simple, craft projects from some wonderful bloggers. These can all be done before Santa arrives and would make great projects to do with friends and family. So, pop those Christmas tunes on and get crafting!

I love the beautiful simplicity and link with nature that Laura, from The Circle of Pines, shares in her festive, natural crafting blog post. Using cranberries to both make this delicate printing wrapping paper and strung on to string to make a ruby red, glistening garland, feels like a very relaxing and almost magical craft; one where you slow done and enjoy the process one cranberry at a time. Have a look at Laura's blog while you're there. It's the most heavenly blog. Definitely a favourite of mine.

Isn't this woodland inspired twig and pomberry gift wrap by Rue Rococo stunning! You can find out how to make it here. I love the mixture of nature, craft and the simple beauty of it. Gorgeous!

These Rosemary Wreath Place Cards by Spoon Fork Bacon look super cute and are really easy to make AND they can be done in time for Christmas day! The lovely tutorial is available here.

Jar + candle and I'm sold. These Bookpage Jars by Arrow and Apple are utterly beautiful. I don't know what it is about them but the very idea of them warms me to the heart. They would certainly add a different twist to just popping tea lights in a jar.

Handmade Christmas Table Decorations

This year I’ll be spending Christmas in a lock keeper’s cottage with my family, complete with an aga cooker. I’m rather excited about this and have already planned vintage style table decorations. I’m making floral napkins to go with the chintzy, second-hand plates, putting candles in dainty tea cups and covering Christmas crackers with vintage style wallpaper and ribbon.

There are loads of different themes you could go for too from rustic to fun and playful for the kids to full on glitter and sparkle to a set colour scheme!

Head over to Simple Stylish Makes for some of my fun DIY ideas to accessorise your Christmas table with.

Happy making, folks and don't forget to share your makes over on the Simple Stylish Makes Instagram page, using the hashtag #simplestylishmakers.

What's on the jukebox, Jo?

This week has been bizzzzzzzee and there's been a whole load of different music to encourage me to keep up with all the Christmas shop orders. I've gone from classics such as, Rockin' Robin to the post punky likes of Spring King to this beautiful track, Wide Open, from Chemical Brothers' latest album. Thank goodness for wonderful, wonderful music!

Don't forget folks, there's still plenty of time to pick up a Personalised Handkerchief or a Tartan Bow Tie or maybe a Glitter Hair Bow! Just pop on over to my Etsy or Notonthehighstreet shops and get your order in!

Thanks loads and have a great Friday everyone!

Three Social Media Tips

tips social media

Check out these three quick social media tips:

Twitter / best not to start an argument on Twitter. It's never pretty and can never end well.

Facebook / if you have a FB page, make sure you fill in the about section, so that possible new followers know if your business/group is their cup of tea or not.

Instagram / increase your followers by holding a competition. To enter the competition, people must go and like your Instagram page.
